Situación del Chagas en Caracas

Aviso a la Comunidad en General: El Instituto de Medicina Tropical (IMT), ante la situación de nerviosismo y angustia que se ha generado por el reporte de 3 Chipos encontrados en la Urbanización Colinas de Bello Monte, Municipio Batuta, es oportuno manifestar nuestra posición al respecto.

La enfermedad de Chagas

La Tripanosomiasis Americana o Enfermedad de Chagas (ECh), nombrada así en honor al médico e investigador Carlos Chagas, quien describió la enfermedad en 1909, es causada por Trypanosoma cruzi, parásito flagelado que se transmite principalmente a través de triatominos, insectos hematófagos, que pueden compartir la vivienda con el hombre y mamíferos domésticos y silvestres.
